Pranab Mukherjee’s foundation not collaborating with RSS in Haryana

‘Pranab Mukherjee’s foundation may collaborate with RSS in Haryana’, read a news title published by The Economic Times on August 31.

“Swayamsevak Sangh which invited former president Pranab Mukherjee to speak at an event recently seems to be interested in extending the relationship with him. He too seems keen. The former president will share the stage with Haryana CM Manohar Lal on Sunday to launch a series of programmes of his think-tank, the Pranab Mukherjee Foundation,” the article read.

On the basis of the report, OpIndia published an article titled, ‘Unfazed by Congress’ pettiness, Pranab Mukherjee to collaborate with RSS through his think-tank: Reports.’

Instead of talking about the details mentioned in the rant, the OpIndia article, as usual, turned to its predictable rant against Congress.

However, a statement was issued by the office of the former President on the evening of August 31, denying any reports of his think-tank collaborating with RSS.

“There have been reports in certain sections of the Media suggesting that the Pranab “Mukherjee Foundation (PMF) may collaborate with RSS in Haryana”. It is categorically clarified that there is neither any existing collaboration nor is there any such move in the offing,” the statement read.

“The Smartgram Project in Haryana started in July 2016, when Shri Pranab Mukherjee adopted some villages as the serving President and he will be visiting Gurgaon at the invitation of the Government of Haryana on September 2, 2018 to inaugurate projects started during the last 2 years along with Shri M.L. Khattar, the CM of Haryana,”  the statement further read.

So, while this is true that he met RSS workers in Haryana and inaugurated projects along with the Haryana Chief Minister, Mukherjee has categorically refuted any reports of his think-tank collaborating with the RSS in Haryana.

While Economic Times has not updated their article with the clarification issued by Mukherjee’s office, OpIndia updated their article with the clarification.
